Questions

Things people ask before their first fold.

The kits

What does “low poly” mean?

“Low poly” means “few polygons”: the animal's volume is simplified into a few hundred flat facets. Each facet becomes a folded face of paper, which gives our models their geometric look.

Pre-cut kit or PDF pattern: what is the difference?

The kit is delivered in mainland France: sheets of 240 g coloured card already cut and creased, double-sided tape and the guide, with the PDF pattern and the 3D tutorial in your account. The PDF pattern downloads instantly, anywhere in the world: you print it on A4 card of 160 to 220 g/m², then cut, crease and glue it yourself (glue and tape not included).

Do I need a cutting machine?

No. The kit arrives already cut and creased. The PDF pattern is cut by hand with scissors or a craft knife, and creased with a ruler and an empty ballpoint pen. We supply the PDF to print, not files for cutting machines (SVG, DXF…).

What is in a kit?

Sheets of 240 g card already cut and creased, one colour per sheet, with the numbers on the hidden side; the illustrated guide with the assembly map; and access to the 3D tutorial and the PDF pattern in your account.

Do I need tools or glue?

For a kit, no: the pieces are already cut and creased, and double-sided tape is included. For a PDF pattern you need a printer, scissors or a craft knife, a ruler, and a glue stick or double-sided tape.

How long does a build take?

Allow about 1 h 30 to 3 h 30 for a pre-cut kit depending on the model, more for a PDF pattern you cut yourself. The estimated time is shown on each page.

Is the paper printed?

No. We use card coloured through: the colour is the paper's own, with no ink. Only the numbers and fold symbols are marked on the inside.

What age is it for?

Our kits are decorative objects to build, recommended from age 14: the pieces are small and the build takes patience. Younger children build them very well with an adult, each with their own job.

Is the guide in English?

Yes, in French and English in every box.

And for the flowers, what do I need?

The double-sided tape is in the pouch, as for the animals. You will need covered florist wire, 18 gauge, 30 cm per stem (not included), a pen, whose tip is enough to cup the petals, a pencil or a skewer to curl them, and flat pliers for the hook at the end of the wire.

Do you use artificial intelligence?

Partly, and we would rather say so. For some animals, an AI tool turns a reference image into a first 3D volume. We then simplify it into facets with our own tools, and every model is reviewed and adjusted by hand and checked piece by piece (numbers, tabs, folds) before it goes on sale. Vases and flowers are designed without AI.

What if I spoil a piece?

A piece damaged or spoilt while building? Write to us with a photo: we send the replacement sheet free of charge (one sheet per piece, kits bought on orikind.com). This comes on top of the legal warranties.
